Event Coverage
Throughout her five years in the role, Madison covered various events both on and off campus. These ranged from Quinnipiac's Wake the Giant spring concert and orientation sessions to the graduate and undergraduate annual holiday dinners, the festive Quad lighting ceremony, hockey games, commencement ceremonies, QU in Italy, and the infamous 2023 Men's Frozen Four National Championship. Her event coverage spanned across articles, photos, and videos, often being shared on the university's official Instagram and TikTok accounts.
Additionally, while at the Frozen Four in Tampa, FL, Madison and her colleague were interviewed and featured on NBC Connecticut. During the interview, they shared their experiences and unique perspectives on covering the game in person with viewers.
The article pitching and writing process involved Madison brainstorming story concepts and ideas with her team, and then reaching out to the relevant individuals to gather background information and quotes. She often conducted interviews with students, faculty, professors, and alumni to uncover fresh angles for promoting the university. Following the writing stage, Madison reviewed and edited her articles, making any necessary tweaks before proceeding to build them within Quinnipiac's content management system. In total, Madison wrote over 100 articles and copy-edited several hundred more, ensuring each piece went beyond publishing standards.
Article Pitching & Writing
Website Building & Design
Madison dedicated herself daily to Episerver, Quinnipiac's content management system, to thoroughly construct articles, pages, and galleries across Quinnipiac's main website. She diligently built pages block by block, reviewing metadata, alternate text properties, images, copy, and more before publishing the finalized page on the live website where it would then be promoted for marketing purposes on Quinnipiac Today.
During her time in the role, Madison also dabbled in photography, using a Canon camera to capture moments at events. She then worked to optimize these photos for web use, either for publication on Quinnipiac's website or to accompany her upcoming articles.
The purpose of these photos was to provide context to events or establish a foundation of understanding for readers. For instance, some highlighted new faculty members joining the Bobcat Community, while others showcased the diverse array of international students joining Quinnipiac from around the globe. These photos served to humanize Quinnipiac as a brand and spotlight the multitude of individuals comprising its extraordinary community.

This newsletter was edited and created using Delivera, an email marketing system, and reached over 140,000 subscribers each week. The goal of QU Today was to spotlight the week's top stories, upcoming notable events, and calls to action for the community to share more photos and stories with us.
